
Adopt the spirit of mantenance culture. Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dordo, the Volta Regional Health Directorate, has urged various hospitals and health centers across the region and the country at large to always adopt the spirit of proper maintenance culture for better healthcare delivery.
The move, according to the Director, would ensure that medical facilities are well-equipped to provide quality service for the public.
Dr. Dordo made the call during the commissioning of a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) centre at the Keta Municipal hospital, and charged staff of the hospitals to practice proper maintenance culture to help prevent equipment failure, reduce downtime and ensure safe and hyenic medical facilities for patients.
“I am happy to witness this great development at Keta hospital, the equipment is beautiful, and I am urging the staff here and other facilities to develop the spirit of maintenance culture,” he said.
He explained that adopting and prioritizing maintenance culture would enable hospitals to extend the lifespan of their various equipment and reduce costs associated with the repairs and replacement for smooth running of the hospitals.
He urged the hospital staff to practice regular inspection of the equipment to address any issues or defects quickly to prevent equipment failure and schedule regular maintenance task which includes cleaning and lubricating of equipment to make sure they are working well to curb any unforeseen challenges.

Dr. Dordo pledged that the regional health directorate would help solve other pressing challenges at the Keta Municipal hospital which include specialized staff, critical care nurses, general nurses, pharmacists, and biomedical scientists to facilitate smooth and better healthcare delivery at all times.
The hospital has further appealed for essential ICU equipment such as patient’s monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, defibrillators, endoscopy unit, CT scan or MRI unit with specialized training and improve on the ongoing support for the staff training and professional development.
Some staff of the hospital in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, urged their clients and other families to utilize the facilities and pledged that in moment of medical crises they would provide the needed care, support dignity and expertise deserved by all.
They said that the establishment of the ICU marked the intent to evolve into fully fledged secondary level referrals facility for southern Volta and appealed to the regional health directorate and the Ghana Health Service to provide additional human resources and equipment for successful outputs
